Emirates has announced about the launching of two new features which started in May at the Brand New Exclusive Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport, where all the Emirate flights are now arriving and departing.
One feature is biometric technology where the passengers could register and store their image by even taking a selfie or a photo at booths placed at checkpoints and Emirates lounges. Once the registration is done, the data could be used at all the points.
The other is the introduction of Automated Border Control Gates. This Automated Border Control will ease the procedure of checking the passport and boarding passes relieving the passengers from long queues.
Both features will be available with Emirates Airline, Dubai customs, Dubai GDFRA, Dubai Police and Dubai Airports. The projects are expected to be fully implemented before the end of 2018.
One of the largest Face Recognition Systems in the world is being used by US where it handles the data of around 120 million citizens. FBI also uses the images only to support investigation. Australia and New Zealand have automated border processing system called Smart Gate. Major Canadian airports will be using this program to verify passports by the end of 2018.
Though there are pros and cons. Emirates is working towards improving the traveler experience.
