An Indonesian made Dauphin AS365 rescue helicopter crashed just about three minutes away from Dieng Plateau where the volcanic eruption occurred on Sunday and injured at least 10 people. But all the 8 people on the rescue helicopter were killed.
Dieng Plateau is a popular tourist attraction because of its cool climate and ninth-century Hindu temples at about 2000 meters above sea level.
When the Sileri Crater at Dieng Plateau erupted, mud and ash were spewed as high as 50 meters in to the sky. There were around 17 people at the time of eruption and all were evacuated safely while admitting 10 in the hospital.
When it happened last in 2009 the volcanic materials went up to 200 meters high. In 1979 about 142 people suffocated due to the spewed gases.
