The United Airlines pilots union, a unit of the Airline Pilots Association, issued a statement criticizing the United States Department of Transportation for tentatively approving Norwegian Air’s newest subsidiary based in London. It has a similar subsidiary in Ireland.
The United pilots fear that if Norwegian Air is allowed to operate without restrictions it could lead the US Based carriers to layoff. Because according the spokesperson of Norwegian Air, that it’s not stopping with subsidiaries in Ireland and England but plans are made to launch a third subsidiary in Argentina as well, and also start flights between Chicago and London.
In the statement issued by United pilots they have reminded that the President has promised that “we will protect the workers, promote our industry and be proud of our history because we will put America first.” They went on to request the President to get tough with Norwegian to hire U.S based pilots and make such hiring a requirement to operate to the United States.
