Russia’s new Platov International Airport, which will serve Rostov-on-Don, begins aircraft testing from Oct. 16-Nov. 20. It will be open for operations in December 2017.
The new airport will test aircraft handling at the apron, passenger and luggage departure, arrival and transfer. Staff recruitment will be completed in the middle of November.
Construction of new airport started by the end of 2014, which was previously known as Yuzhny International. It was later renamed Platov.
New airport will have a 50,600 sq m passenger terminal and 3,600 m runway and will be able to handle up to 8 million passengers per year.
Rostov-on-Don is situated about 1,000 kilometres southeast of Moscow and is a key transport and cultural hub of southern Russia.
