An Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon jet crashed 20 miles northwest of Safford, Arizona at 3 p.m, on Tuesday.
Rescue efforts were under way and Graham County Sheriff has confirmed the pilot has died.
The crash occurred during training exercises out of Tucson International Airport, the Guard said.
The crash was the second involving an F-16 Fighting Falcon flying from the 162nd Wing and the third F-16 crash in Arizona, since mid-2015.
According to photo posted on tweeter, the canopy remains intact after the crash.
