The UK Government has started the repatriation programme as promised to bring back the passengers stranded abroad due to the closure of Monarch Airline operations.
Sixty-one flights brought 11,843 passengers home from 24 holiday resorts in Cyprus on Monday. Another 58 flights for 11,647 passengers have been arranged for Tuesday.
Monarch has been operating 18 flights per week to and from the Holiday resorts in Larnaca and Paphos until it closed down.
There has been delays in departure from these airports.
According to the Press Association, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) chief executive Andrew Haines said, “Given the unprecedented scale of this task, some disruption is inevitable. We thank everyone involved for their patience.”
