Leibovitch family was awarded $67 million as compensation to be paid by Iranian Government as their 7 year old child was killed and other members of the family severely injured due to the terrorist attack in 2003. The amount is still to be paid.
The family sought the assistance of the Chicago federal court to get the award recovered from any Iranian assets held in US.
Iran Air where Iran Government has 60% stake has entered a deal with Boeing to supply 80 aircraft for a value of $16.6 billion. Boeing was requested to provide details of the deal to see the possibility of recovering the claim. But Boeing has refused to reveal the details of the agreement as it claims it to be secret and since Iran is one of the major customer, Boeing is planning to deliver the first out of the 80 aircrafts in April 2018.
The court has turned towards US Government to make a ruling towards the claim of the family and the defense of the Boeing. President Donald Trump is also expected to announce plans regarding the decertification of Iran nuclear deal.
Under this circumstances on Thursday, Trump Administration has given the federal court a two-month deadline extension to make a decision whether revealing secret details of a $16.6 billion aircraft deal between Iran and Boeing would interfere with US foreign policy..
