Luggage thefts by the very airport workers who are supposed to get bags safely onto planes has become a problem for passengers.
The theft of expensive items from the checked baggage are not a rule but it happens. Some airlines and airports have setup hidden cameras in baggage hold and found baggage handlers stealing items on flights.
According to travel insurance companies, 25 thefts from luggage reported per 50,000 passengers, which in total in US alone amounting to $2.5 million in loss claims.
