With the collapse of three major low cost airlines in Europe, the Norwegian became the leading player in European market.
When Norwegian boss Bjorn Kjos founded the airline in 1993, it was just a tiny airline with three Fokker 50 flying between Bergen and Trondheim. Today the airline has become the largest airline in Scandinavia and the third largest budget Airline in Europe.
On 25 January 2012, Norwegian announced placing the largest orders of Airplanes in the European aviation history, the NAS ordered, 22 Boeing 737-800 and 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 with the option of adding another 100 and 100 Airbus A320neos with the option of adding another 50 worth $21.5 billion at list prices.
By the end of 2013, Norwegian base was opened in London-Gatwick and the airline flew to every other destination flown by its competitors EasyJet, Monarch, Ryanair and Thomson Airways. From 2016, the airline expanded its destinations to US and soon to Singapore from London.
With the collapse of it rivals and Ryanair in a mess of flight cancellations, 71 year old Norwegian boss will fly even further.
