The current Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Malaysia Airlines, Captain Izham Ismail is appointed as the MAS Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO)., the MAS board announced today.
Captain Izham’s appointment as GCEO, be effective immediately and he will assume duties as Group CEO from December 1, 2017, upon the departure of current CEO Peter Bellew, who is in administrative leave.
Captain Izham been with MAS for 38 years who joined the Airline in 1979. When he flew Malaysia Airlines’ first B777-200 from Seattle to Kuala Lumpur and back, he set the world records for longest and fastest round-the-world flight by a commercial airliner ― with a total flight time of 41 hours 59 minutes over a distance of 23,310 miles.
“We are now in the third year of the five year MRP (MAS Recovery Plan) and it is timely for us to appoint a Malaysian to see it through to the finish line.” chairman of Malaysia Airlines Md Nor Yusof said
“My entire career has been spent with Malaysia Airlines and it is very much my family. Helming the national airline is a big responsibility. I am humbled and at the same time, ready for the challenge,” Captain Izham said.
