“I just want to balik kampung (back to my village)” says outgoing Malaysia Airlines CEO peter Bellew in a 45 minutes press conference in Malaysia.
Though Perter Bellew’s resignation was a surprised to Malaysia Airlines Board, his intension was leaked in media (News in-flight) days before the official announcement.
Even at the heights of media speculation Peter said “I am happy to be in Malaysia and that the turnaround of Malaysia Airlines would be ‘the greatest achievement of my life’,”. Then on 17 October he said “I am excited to return home to Ryanair” and officially announced his resignation. Peter said he tendered his resignation on October 8, couple days before accepting the Ryanair offer.
Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad accused the current PM Najib Razak for Peter’s resignation. Peter categorically denied Mahathir’s post and said “I just want to balik kampung,” …”there is no politics in my decision”…“Tun Mahathir is completely wrong. 100 per cent wrong … There is no mystery, no conspiracy,” he added.
Peter is official reporting to take the position as Chief Operating Officer with Ryanair on 1 December 2017.
