According to the Ryanair’s work schedule, pilots are obliged to fly for five days in a row and then take three days off. This amounts to 900 hours of flying per year as against 700 hours of flying for Air France pilots
Speaking to french news media, A Ryanair pilot confessed that pilots sleep during flights due to overwork.
According to french newspaper ‘Liberation’, A pilot has confessed that “from the fourth day you are tired”, and “We sleep in the cockpit during the flight, even if we can’t really do that if the flight time is less than two hours 45 minutes”.
As a general practice pilots are allowed to have short periods of sleep. It is proven that ‘Controlled rest’ could improve safety for long-haul flights. But regulations on in-flight naps vary according to the length of the flight.
Lately Ryanair pilots have been taking their frustration in social media and giving interviews on main stream media as well. All started after Ryanair cancelled thousands due shortage of pilots.
