Ethiopian Airlines has received its first of four Boeing 787-9s. All these aircrafts are being leased from AerCap. The non-stop delivery flight aircraft from the Boeing plant in Everett, arrived in Addis Ababa passing 13,440 km.
Ethiopian is the first airline in Africa to receive the 787-9. It already operates 19 787-8s, which was the first in Africa to introduce that version in 2012.
This first flight of 787-9 to Ethiopia was conducted as a humanitarian delivery flight in conjunction with the non-profit Seattle Alliance Outreach. The aircraft transported goods donated by US medical organisations to Black Lion Hospital and St. Paul Hospital in Ethiopia.
