A Southwest Airlines flight 1863 with around 80 on board was getting ready for the take off. A passenger who was seated at rear suddenly heard a noise and out of curiosity looked through the window. The passenger, David Fiedor, saw flames emerging from the bottom of a wing.
David Fiedor immediately told a flight attendant and she prompted the matter to the pilot. ‘A couple of` minutes later the pilot announced there was a mechanical issue and we headed back to the gate.’ The airline cancelled the flight and informed the passengers that they needed to either book another flight or receive a refund.
The airline released a statement saying that the plane was being repaired as of Monday, though it did not acknowledge a fire.
Fiedor said that he frequently takes trips as part of his job requirements and normally falls asleep on the plane. This time, he said, he was glad to have stayed awake.
