PenAir Saab 340 aircraft made an emergency landing at Sand Point airport,Aleutians, Alaska on Tuesday, 7 November 2017.
According to local news channel KUCB, The left engine shut down shortly after takeoff and heard sounds like engine “backfire”, then the crew decided to return to Sand Point.
One of the passengers on board the aircraft headed to Anchorage said “A little bit hairy there for a minute…They went to ramp up the engines for takeoff,” and “The left engine cut out a minute and then ramped up. Not a normal sound.”
In the meantime, Roberts said there will be no interruption to PenAir’s flight service. The airline is adding an extra flight on Wednesday to accommodate Sand Point passengers affected by the engine failure.
