During the ongoing 2017 Dubai Airshow AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines has ordered five B787-8s from Boeing. Azerbaijan Airlines, also known as AZAL, is the flag carrier and largest airline of the country of Azerbaijan. At present AZAL has 27 aircraft flying to 71 destinations.
The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence in 1918 and became the first democratic state in the Muslim-oriented world. The country was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1920 as the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. The modern Republic of Azerbaijan proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991.
AZAL President Jahangir Askerov said in a joint communique, “Ordering additional 787 Dreamliner airplanes will greatly expand our airline’s capabilities, allowing us to serve new destinations and carry more passengers.” Deliveries are scheduled for 2019-2020.
