Boeing has completed its first 737NG (Next generation) passenger-to-freighter conversion. Once the testing is over it would certificated in late December be delivered to West Atlantic’s UK Division in early February next year.
Conversion was done at the Chinese maintenance and modification joint venture Boeing-Shanghai Aviation Services. West Atlantic confirms that it has arrived at USA for flight tests.
737-800 (MSN 32740) was manufactured in 2004 and operated by several airlines. It is the Travel Service that most recently operated the aircraft in passenger service, using it until earlier this year.
In addition to Boeing Shanghai, the US manufacturer has partnered with Chinese maintenance specialist Taikoo Aircraft Engineering also as a modification centre for its 737-800BCF (Boeing Converted Freight) programme.
