Passengers to Britain on the packed British Airways flight from Arizona, USA, saw sparks shooting from the plane through their windows.
The captain announced that the right engine had to be shut down as it overheated. Then the jet was reportedly forced to “dump fuel” in mid-air before returning to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Video has emerged appearing to show flames at the back of the plane just seconds after it took off.
The plane was circling south Phoenix to dump fuel and waiting for air traffic control to give the go-ahead to return. In a statement BA officials told that the plane had a technical issue with one of its four engines. The engine was reportedly shut down by the flight crew, before the plane landed safely at the airport.
