Fiji Airways intends to open the Fiji Aviation Academy in Nadi by 2019. It will house the airline’s Boeing 737 Max 8 and Airbus A330 simulators that have been ordered from CAE, and will expand into full ab initio training later on. The aviation training facility that will house two simulators will cost $45 million.
Apart from training the pilots for Fiji Airways, the academy will cater to third parties, especially with the simulators. The airline has allocated space for a third simulator bay for future expansion opportunities. Fiji Airways operates a fleet of five Boeing 737NGs and four A330s. It has also signed a tentative order for five 737 Max 8s, scheduled for delivery in 2018 and 2019.
