A Singapore Airlines Airbus A330, flight SQ449 with 190 passengers onboard from Dhaka to Singapore made an emergency landing in Myanmar due to engine failure on Wednesday 7 Feb, 2018.
As the airplane climbed out of Dhaka, the left hand engine, Rolls Royce Trent 772 failed and developed high vibrations. The crew shut the engine down and diverted the plane to Mandalay International Airport, Myanmar.
The plane landed safely and all 190 passengers were flown to Singapore in a replacement Airplane.
The Rolls Royce Trent 772 entered service in 1995, is the first member of Trent 700 family of engines powering Airbus A330-200s and A330-300s. Then in 1999, an improved model Trent 772B was introduced for the same A330-200/300s.
