A herd of cattle strayed on the runway of Akure Airport preventing an Air Peace flight from landing at Akura Airport, on 17 February 2018. An Air Peace flight 7002 from Lagos had to circle around 10 minutes before being cleared to land on the runway.
On its approach, pilot-in-command, Capt. Williams Iyang sighted cows on the runway and decided to go on holding until his flight is cleared to land. The governor, Ayodele Fayose has hailed the pilot for saving the lives of passengers.
Today Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) of Nigeria has issued an apology statement that read “FAAN wishes to apologize to Air Peace Airlines and our esteemed passengers for a runway incursion incident that prevented an Akure airport bound flight from landing for some minutes..”
