Power bank inside passenger’s hand luggage placed in the overhead compartment caught fire in China Southern Airlines Boeing 777-300ER plane at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China on 25 February 2018.
China Southern Airlines said in a statement, the passengers boarding the flight CZ3539, notice fire and smoke spreading from passenger’s bag in the overhead compartment alerted the flight attendants, and the fire was put out with the help of the fire and security departments. No further damages were reported.
Video posted in the social media shows that flight attendants were using water bottles and beverages to put out the fire.
A replacement aircraft was deployed and left Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport for Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 2.53pm local time, almost three hours after the scheduled departure time.
