American Airlines has placed an order for 47 Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets valued at $12 billion at list prices. The new order for additional 47 787 jets makes American Airlines the largest 787 customer in the Western Hemisphere.
The World’s larger airline, originally ordered 42 787 jets on 15 Oct 2008 valued at $8 billion, which has been delivered from 2012, and 4 more to be delivered soon. In the new order, airline is buying 22 787-8s and 25 787-9s. American currently operates 952 Airbus and Boeing jets and 256 jets on order.
Boeing says, more than half of the program’s 71 customers have repeated orders, which has helped the 787 program achieve more than 1,350 orders to date.
The 787-8 Dreamliner comes in three variants of 787-8. -9. and -10. The 787-8 Dreamliner can fly 242 passengers up to 7,355 nautical miles (13,620 km) in a typical two-class configuration. The 787-9, a stretch of the 787-8, can fly 290 passengers up to 7,635 nautical miles.
