178 technicians at Boeing company’s South Carolina factory will vote on union representation later this month, after labor regulators on Monday cleared a path for a fresh ballot. the Wall Street Journal reported.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that the technicians at the Boeing’s South Carolina facility, which produces the 787 jets, can vote to join the International Association of Machinists union.
The ruling came after the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has sought to unionize workers at the Boeing South Carolina (BSC) plant.
The ruling has disappointed Boeing, and the company said “Our position on this issue has not changed: we strongly believe that this micro-unit is prohibited under federal labor law and is not in the best interests of our teammates, our site or our community,”
In South Carolina, It is not compulsory to join a Union as part of an employment.
