Runway collision was timely averted between SpiceJet and IndiGo jets at Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Varanasi, India on Tuesday 14 June at around 10.30 AM.
According to Avherald, An Indigo Airbus A320-200, reg VT-IHS, flight 6E-3175 from Varanasi to Delhi (India) with 178 passengers and 5 crew, was accelerating for takeoff, when the tower noticed a Spicejet Boeing 737-800 inadvertently crossing the hold short line and instructed the Indigo Airbus to reject takeoff. The IndioGo crew rejected takeoff at low speed and stopped the aircraft safely.
The A320 returned to the apron for checks and departed with a delay of about 1.5 hours. The B738 departed shortly afterwards and reached Hyderabad on time.
Two pilots of the SpiceJet plane have been grounded following the incident, confirmed an airline spokesperson. The matter has been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for further investigation.
