RwandAir has received the U.S Department of Transportation approval to fly from Kigali, Rwanda to New York, and the permit became effective on May 29, 2018. The airline intends to launch the route with its brand new A330neo.
This would be the first ever flight connecting the East African nation with United States. However, the foreign air carrier permit allows RwandAir to “only operate through a code-share and/or wet-lease arrangement with a duly authorised and properly supervised US or foreign air carrier.”, means the order restricts the airline from physically operating the flight to and from the United States.
Also the nonstop flight is a question with A330neo, given that Kigali to New York is around 7,050 miles.
The airline also confirmed receiving two Airbus A330-900neos and two Boeing 737 MAX 8s in 2019 and start new services to the US and China.
