AirAsia Group head Tony Fernandes has hinted of ordering more planes ahead of discussions with Airbus at its headquarters in Toulouse, France.
“Off to airbus today in toulouse. Lots to discuss. The 330 neo with rolls Royce engines. They 251 tonne can reach london. The 321 we think is a great plane. Maybe order more ? Business is strong. Bring airbus to malaysia ? More jobs.” Fernandez Tweeted today.
According to his tweets, AirAsia may weigh towards A330neos with the view of expanding its routes to London.
AirAsia has 100 A321neos order yet to be delivered, and its long-haul wing AirAsia X has 66 A330-900s with MTOW 242t on order.
However, Tony is considering the new version of A330-900 with maximum take-off weight of 251t, to firm the order.
The new A330- 251t variant is expected to increase range by 650nm to a total of 7,200nm, compared with the current 242t variant.
