An American Airlines Boeing 757-200 flight AA89 from Shannon, Ireland, to Philadelphia, USA, was diverted and made an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada on Wednesday afternoon due to smoke in the cabin.
The Boeing 757 with 176 passengers onboard declared emergency at 12:40 p.m. AT and landed safely in Halifax about 10 minutes later,
Both Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency and paramedics were at the scene and reported there is no active fire in the plane.
All passengers were disembarked safely, but were stranded for more than 9 hours before a rescue flight #AA9654 from New York arrived.
