Saudi Arabia’s state airline Saudia declared it is suspending flights in and out of Toronto, following an intensifying diplomatic drift with Canada.
The dispute intensified after a tweet by Canadian foreign ministry’s Global Affairs Canada, calling Saudi Arabia to “immediately release” women’s rights activists recently detained by the Saudi kingdom.
Saudi on Monday cut all diplomatic ties and announced to cut all flights to Canada.
Ottawa stands firm on its decision and foreign minister Chrystia Freeland said, “Let me be very clear… Canada will always stand up for human rights in Canada and around the world, and women’s rights are human rights.”
