The Turkish Airline will make the first flight from the Istanbul’s new airport to the capital Ankara on 31 Oct 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The airport will be officially open on the 29 Oct.
The airline is preparing to move its base to the new airport in 45 hours using 15,000 ground vehicles and 5,000 trucks, – will become the ‘largest move’ in the aviation history.
Turkish Airlines, will be based on a 664,000 square-meter area, and would also have a special lounge area on a 10,000 square-meter area.
The new airport is planned as the largest airport in the world to accommodate 200 million passengers in four phase development. In the first phase the airport will handle 90 million passengers and the second phase is expected to complete by 2023.
A airport has 88 aircraft jet bridges, with 2 independent runways and 8 parallel taxiways. At the second stage, another runway with 3 parallel taxiways will be built.
Upon completion by 2030, with the cost of $12.7bn, the airport will have 4 terminal buildings, 6 runways, 16 taxiways, and 165 aircraft jet bridges in addition to advanced airport facilities.
