Pakistan’s flag carrier PIA, threatened to ground cabin crew members who do not lose weight within six months.
A leaked memo sent to about 1800 cabin crew members, revealed that the airline is cracking down on crew members who have “excess weight” on their bodies.
The term “excess weight” refer to anyone who weighs more than the airline’s weight chart in which a “medium frame” woman of 5 feet 7 inches height (1.7 meters) should weigh between 133 to 147 pounds (60 to 66 kgs).
According to PIA spokesman Mashhood Tajwar, around 100 (over 5 per cent), flight crew need to lose weight by July 1 to avoid grounding.
He said the crackdown was a “regular, routine matter,” to ensure flight attendants were “slim, smart and fit”,
“No one would like to have shabby crew in the aircraft,” he said.
