Qantas has no plans to buy any more Airbus A380s, including the eight jets still listed on the order book of Airbus. says CEO Allan Joyce at the CAPA Australia Pacific Summit 2016
Qantas currently operate 12 A380 on its flagship routes to Los Angeles, Dallas and London and had 8 on firm order from 2016. But it cancelled the existing A380 orders outright and Joyce said we will “keep on pushing them out”. Qantas is now considering both the Boeing 777X and the ultra-long range Airbus A350-900ULR for its post-2020 fleet
It comes after Emirates said to be switching some orders for the superjumbo to the smaller A350., and 10 A380s from Hong Kong Airlines was removed last month from the December Airbus order and delivery tables.
Qantas’s decision will force the Airbus to close the A380 production sooner than expected…
