Cathay Pacific is closing its cabin crew base in Toronto, Canada, affecting 120 workers.
The Hong Kong-based airline informed the Flight attendants at a hotel at Toronto International Airport.
The airline says it is not commercially viable to maintain a cabin crew base in Toronto but currently doesn’t have plans to close other bases outside Hong Kong. However, it has plans to recruit more than 1,000 cabin crew in Hong Kong this year.
Cathay Pacific is seeking to reduce HK$4 billion ($510 million) in expenses by cutting jobs, increase seats on its aircraft, and closing down bases, as part of its three-year transformation program that started in 2017.
