Airbus, in cooperation with Safran, developed the Lower Deck Pax Experience Modules consists of extension of passengers’ space into the cargo hold. The concept will allow more passengers to board the plane, who peter a quieter and darker space to sleep.
The 2019 Crystal Cabin Awards, which had more than 100 entries from across the 22 countries, selected “windowless cabin” located in the plane cargo hold in the eight categories.
Frederic Mazel, cabin product director at Airbus, said people seemed to like the idea, especially if it was priced as premium economy, means “finally sleeping while travelling economy” was the dream behind the project.
The concept would ready to be installed by 2021 for the customers who decides to use the designs as plane configurations.
