Brazil’s iconic brand name ‘Embraer’ will be called ‘Boeing Brazil’ said the Boeing on Thursday.
Name change is approved after Boeing agreed to buy 80% of Embraer’s passenger jet unit for $4.2 billion.
Embraer’s passenger jet unit, which produces less than 150 seats aircraft is the Embraer’s most profitable unit and considered a gold standard of Brazilian engineering.
Boeing has not yet made a decision about rebranding Embraer passenger planes, which currently carry the ‘Embraer’ name followed by a model code.
The Embraer is the third largest producer of civil aircraft, after Boeing and Airbus, which was created as a government-owned corporation in 1969.
The Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica) grew to become the third largest civil aircraft manufacturer and was privatized in 1994.
Today it is the No.1 provider of commercial aircraft in the 70-130+ segment.
