The National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) has suspended airline’s operations “as a precautionary measure” until the carrier proves its ability to ensure safe operations.
The airline returned dozens of aircraft to lessors and slashed its workforce by 900 employees as it reported a loss of $68 million in Q1 2019.
Avianca has been operating under bankruptcy protection since December 2018.
On May 24, 2019 ANAC ceased or suspended all operations of Avianca Brasil so the company could guarantee its security services.
The six jets were grounded and 8646 flights cancelled.
