Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in Moscow is conducting wind-tunnel testing a new long range commercial aircraft concept.
The Russian researchers are developing new twin-jet aircraft concepts to accomplish greater range (nearly 4,900nm (9,000km)) at higher speeds.
The aircraft will be tested on various versions of the wings. At the first stage, two types of wings were tested: the first with a sweep of 30 °, calculated for a cruising number M = 0.83–0.84, the second – with a slightly larger sweep – for a cruising number M = 0.84–0.85.
The new Airbus A321XLR will have a range of 4,500 nautical miles, and Russian concept aircraft will have 4,900nm in 200-250 seating capacity segment.
