Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 executed a missed approach after being informed by Melbourne Airport air traffic control that the undercarriage was not deployed.
The flight #VN781 returned for a safe landing 15 min later on runway 34 at Melbourne International Airport (YMML), Australia.
The flight from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam was advised to Go-Around by ATC on its short-final to Melbourne Airport on 19 September.
“During approach to land, Melbourne air traffic control advised the crew that the aircraft’s landing-gear was observed not to be extended,” says the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Visibility at the time – around 08:04 – was good, and there was no adverse weather, according to meteorological data from the airport.
