Airbus has listed one of its A350-1000 variants having maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 319t, around 3t higher than any of the current weight variants.
Airbus listed nine weight variants of A350-1000 in its technical data documentation for airport planning, including two designated WV002 and WV011 with the highest MTOW of 316t.
The usable fuel capacity of two variants are hiked to 159,000 litres, that gives a range of 16,100km (8,693nm), which is almost 300nm higher than its other variants.
Airbus pushes the range limit of A350-1000 as a contender for Qantas’s ultra-long range ‘Project Sunrise’ programme.
Qantas’ Project Sunrise aims to provide nonstop service from Australian cities such as Sydney, Melbourne to London and New York.
Airbus has not specified how it will modify the A350-1000 to meet the demands of Project Sunrise, but has indicated that no further MTOW increase is planned.
However, Airbus said to provide a solution by 2022.
