China Airline flight CI028 aborted takeoff after a man found clinging onto the landing gear during the takeoff.
A man believed to be a Russian citizen ran onto the tarmac at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and jumped into the landing gear of a China Airlines flight just before takeoff about 2 p.m. Saturday.
The flight CI028 from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport to Palau was preparing to take off when the pilot of an Asiana Airlines plane spotted a man emerged out of the grassland near runway and jumped onto the landing gear of the plane.
The control tower was notified about the man on the landing gear by the crew of an Asiana plane taxiing behind the CAL flight.
Police officers chased the man on foot and managed to restrain and detained him. The man not carrying any identification documents and refused to speak.
Later fingerprint and iris scans indicated the man had no records of entry or exit in Taiwan.
All 149 passengers were disembarked to allow a full security inspection of the plane. The flight was rescheduled to depart at 4:20pm.
