Chairman of Thai Airways has stepped down after mounting pressure over airlines’s poor financial performance.
Ekniti Nitithanprapas resigned as Chairman on 1 November without giving any specific reason.
Airline has named vice-chairman Chaiyapruk Didyasarin to take up the duties as Chairman in the interim until the position is filled with suitable candidate.
Thai posted a loss of 6.44 billion baht($220m) in April to June Quarter this year, raising its accumulated loss to 280 billion baht., and scrapped the $5bn fleet renewal project.
Thai Airways president Sumeth Damrongchaitham said on last Tuesday that the airline is at the risk of closure if the staff does not cooperate with the airline’s rehabilitation efforts.
