A historic morning at Israel Ben Gurion Airport, when its last Boeing 747 departed on its final flight LY1747, this 3 Nov, 2019.
The “Queen of Skies” that served the airline for 48 hours was on a retirement flight from Rome(Italy) this Sunday at 4am EST and landed in Tel Aviv.
The 747 aircraft made a one-time historic flight path and created a “sky painting” of a Boeing 747 was on live worldwide.
Aircraft “Beer Sheva”, Reg. 4X-ELC, began to create the “painting” about two hours after takeoff when it was flying above southern Cyprus.
During its service with EL AL, the aircraft notably airlifted 1088 Ethiopian Jews in a single flight to Israel during Operation Solomon in May 1991.
El Al’s last two 747s – “Tel Aviv-Jaffa” (4X-ELA) and “Beer Sheva” (4X-ELC) will be replaced with new Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Boeing 777-200ERs.
