Airbus delivered 863 aircraft in 2019, and has become the world’s largest planemaker for the first time since 2011.
The European planemaker seized the crown from Boeing when its delivery rose 7.9% in 2019 by beating its own revised target of 860 deliveries.
Grounding of 737MAX has dragged the Boeing down on deliveries. Boeing delivered 806 jets in 2018, but this year it delivered only 345 jets between January and November.
Airbus delivered 725 aircraft between Jan and Nov 2019, which means Airbus pushed to deliver 138 jets in December 2019.
According to Reuters, “Airbus production plants traditionally halt over Christmas and New Year. But the company’s delivery centers and completion facilities were humming well into the afternoon of New Year’s Eve to allow Asian and other airlines to fly away new jets.”
