An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800, on flight AS299 from San Jose, (Costa Rica) to Los Angeles,CA (USA) returned to San Jose after a bird ingested into the engine on 13 Feb 2020.
The aircraft with 142 people on board was climbing out of San Jose airport, when a ingested its left engine (CFM56) and began to emit streaks of flames.
The crew level the flight at 8000 feet, reduced the engine thrust to idle and returned to San Jose for a safe landing about 17 minutes after departure.
The flight was cancelled.
No injuries were reported.
