Air New Zealand is proposing to layoff 385 cabin crew by December.
“Unfortunately the reduced schedule means we have a reduction in the number of crew we need for our wide body fleet,”.. and “We are now in a situation where we need to consider the size of our team in relation to both the immediate and medium to long term demand”..airline said in an internal email
The national carrier of New Zealand has already had more than 4000 of 12,500 staff leave since Covid-19 restrictions took hold in March.
According to Chief executive Greg Foran, the airline is looking to save around $150 million dollars by restructuring the airline.
Until now, the airline did not tap into the government grant of $900 million, but hoping to do a capital raising if necessary.
International Air Transport Association’s forecast that international travel was unlikely to return to pre-Covid-19 levels until 2024.
