Portuguese charter airline Hi Fly retires its Airbus A380, after nearly three years of service.

The A380, Reg 9HMIP is arriving this afternoon in Beja, Portugal, after successfully performing the last commercial mission at Hi Fly service, visiting Shangai, Seoul and Hamburg.

On Dec 17, at 10.30am it is expected to take-off from Beja for the very last time.

Hi Fly was the first secondhand operator of an A380, taking delivery of the superjumbo in 2018 after Singapore Airlines opted not to continue with the plane.

The airline replaced its Airbus A340 with this secondhand A380 from Singapore.

Hi Fly was the only dedicated charter operator of the A380, until the COVID hit the airline industry.

Its mission changed with the start of the pandemic and the aircraft has been taking to the skies over the past few months to fly medical cargo as part of the global COVID-19 airlift.

Hi Fly will not be renewing the aircraft’s lease, citing a lack of demand for travel due to the pandemic.
