A man on the runway was killed by a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 landing on a runaway at the Austin airport Thursday night, authorities said.

The pilot of Southwest Flight 1392, arriving from Dallas, reported seeing a person on Runway 17R at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, shortly after the jet touched down at 8:12 p.m., later driver of an airport operations vehicle later found the body on the runway.

Austin-Travis County EMS declared the person dead at the scene. The runway remained closed as authorities investigated exactly what happened. The person who was killed wasn’t wearing a uniform, and also didn’t have an ID.

The aircraft taxied to a gate where all passengers and crew were deplaned the aircraft safely with no reports of onboard injuries.

The aircraft received damage to its #1 engine nacelle.

Southwest is fully cooperating with local law enforcement and FAA as those agencies investigate the event.
